Annie Ruth Nelson Hellams, 98, of Rabun Church Road, Hickory Tavern Community, widow of James Henry Hellams, died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2000, at Ellensburg Nursing Center in Anderson.

Born in Laurens County, she was a daughter of the late William Adolphus and Mary Lydie Elizabeth Sumeral Nelson. Mrs. Hellams was a homemaker and the oldest member of Rabun Creek Baptist Church.

Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, J. Lake and Mamie Hellams, Jimmy David and Betty Hellams, all of Gray Court, Hickory Tavern Community; one daughter and son-in-law, Gladys H. and Wallace Grantland of Anderson; also six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Hellams was predeceased by two daughters, Doris Jean Hellams and Mary Louise Hellams.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 7, at Rabun Creek Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. William Jeffords with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

The family is at their respective homes and will receive friends Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. in the sanctuary of the church prior to the service.

Memorials may be made to Rabun Creek Baptist Church, Building Fund or Cemetery Trust Fund, 17045 Highway 101 S., Gray Court, SC 29645. -- Kennedy Mortuary
