Michelle, I am reconsidering the age and birth place of David Doyle Heslep. The 1830 census for Madison Co. MS shows a David D? Heslep with 1 male age 30-40; 4 males under age 5; 1 female age 20-30; 1 female under 5; 2 females age 5-10.
The 1860 census for Scott Co, MS shows DD Heslep age 38; b. AL; a farmer living with A Warren, a laborer.
The 1870 census for Pulaski Co. AR shows our Heslep (initials are unreadable) living with a wife from SC and four of David Doyle Heslep's children, including my wife's grandmother, Mary Lavinia.David is listed as 38 years old, born in MS.This would make his birthdate 1832, not 1822 and changes the birth place from AL to MS.
I now am looking at the possibility that the David Heslep in the 1830 census may be father of DD Heslep. If this David Heslep was between 30 and 40 in 1830 he could have been born ca 1795.That is when the Chris Heslep says one of his candidates for DD HEslep's father was born.
I still think the two best candidates are Thomas and David D. Heslep, sons of Thomas Helep and probably his second wife, Nancy Arnold.
