I never knew my Martin Hewlett had a sister named Martha!I had heard or read of a Hewlett-Lacy connection in Virginia, but have not completed in definitive research with information confirming that line as related to me.Sorry!
What I do have and know is Martin Hewlett was born in 1754 in Va, mar Jane Henry Moseley in 1786 and they had 8 children.Their son Samuel was born in 1788 in Greene Co. SCand died in 1856 in Lawrence Co. Mo.and this is my Hewlett ancestor.
I have also read that Jane Henry Moseley's father was named Samuel Moseley and have seen a Will & Administration where he names his daughter Jane and her cousinAnn as living relatives.
The Will of Thomas Hewlett was filed in Henry County Virginia, on 19th of March 1787.This was found in a researched publication ca 1956 by my grandmother's first cousin, Oscar Truman Hewlett of Lawrence COunty, MO.He traced the Lawrence Co. Mo Hewletts (Samuel Hewlett and 2 of his 3 wives) back to their origins in Hopkins Co. Kentuckyand from Hopkins Co KY back to New Kent and Henry Counties Virginia.
Here is an abstract of Thomas Hewlett's Will as filed in Henry Co. VA. Wills & Administrations:
In the name of God, Amen.I, THOMAS HEWLETT, of Henry County, Virginia, am at this time in my perfect Senses and right memory, thanks to Almighty God for it, I do make this my last will and testament.
To my dearly beloved wife, Ann Hewlett, I give everything I possess during her life, and after her death to William Hewlett, son of Thomas Hewlett and to MARTIN HEWLETT, SON OF ALFRED HEWLETT and to Susannah Darnal, son of Thomas Darnal, and do ordain my beloved wife, Ann Hewlett, and her father, Samuel Moseley and William Hewlett to be Executor's.
Witness my hand this 19th day of March 1787.
(Signed) THOMAS HEWLETTS.S.
My local Genealogical Library had information under Henry and New Kent County Court House Records for Wills, Land Sales/Deeds, I couldn't find any other information listing an Alfred Hewlett yet this name is as repeated in every successive generation as the name of Augustine/August Hewlett is.
The Will for a William Hewlett, Henry County Virginia on April 5, 1821.Last paragraph:
....First after paying my funeral expenses and just debts, I lend to my beloved wife, Elizabeth, the one-third of my estate both real and personal during her natural life and at her death to be equally divided amongst all my children of my former, and my present marriage; secondly, I give, devise and bequeath two thirds of my estate equally divided amongst all my children, viz, Patsey Davis, John W(atkins) Hewlett, Thomas Hewlett, Augustine Hewlett, Joanne Davis, Duanna N Ellison, Betsey B Worford, Polly McGilley, Nancy D Hewlett and William Hewlett, and their heirs forever.
I hereby appoint my beloved wife, Elizabeth, Elizabeth Hewlett, my Executrix.
I have found these Wills on microfilm and verified the verbage.I also have found my Martin Hewletts WIll in 1816 Muhlenburg Co. KY with an Inventory of his Estate. His wife Jane HM Hewlett's Will is dated August 16, 1831 in Hopkins Co. KY and she names all 8 of her children as heirs.(Hopkins County Court House, Wills & Administrations, Book 3, Page 111.)
I have been in contact for the past year with Margaret Murphy, Doug Wood, and a Jack Williams who are Hewlett descendants also but their Virginia Hewlett moved to Alabama while mine moved to Kentucky with Martin & Jane Henry Moseley Hewlett.
I have conflicting information that Martin's father is another James "Martin" Hewlett while this Will of Thomas Hewlett names his father as Alfred Hewlett?I'm still searching for this for position confirmation!
Martin Hewlett did serve in the Revolutionary War with the Virginia Militia and is listed as a Veteran in the book as a Veteran!
This is the best that I have for now!
