Most of the confusion may be due to my poor wording.
The book, "The Duffies and Related Families," by Eliz. Lindsay and Sue Duffie McLeod (Isbell chapter, pp.49-54) gives a list of children for Capt. Littleton Randolph Isbell wife Ann Randall which does NOT include a Christopher nor daughters Elizabeth or Sarah nor any other who married William Hicklin.
A document compiled by J.W. Williams Jr. in 1989 shows Sarah Isbell (b. 1748 VA m. Wm. Hicklin) as a daughter of Zachariah Isbell b. c1720 & wife Elizabeth (Taylor?), but I don't know his source for that.
The Duffie book states that Henry Isbell who m. Eliz. Littleton came to S.C. by 1744 when daughter Ann was born, then died by 1773 when a deed shows son Littleton was his heir, and widow Elizabeth had married a Stewart.
Another note I find says that Littleton's daughters Elizabeth and Kerenhappuck are named in the 1784 will of Robert Stewart, but I don't know the source of that.
A later Littleton R. Isbell is buried on Highway 34 at Smyrna United Methodist Church, "half way between Winnsboro and Camden, S.C." His grave marker reads:
Lyttleton R. Isbell Sept 10 (12?) 1831 Nov 24 188(1? 4?)
CORRECTION: Draper Manuscripts - from the Wisconsin Historical Society - in summary, they say that Littleton Isbell in Chester Co,Sc came from VA between 1760-1780 and was the father of a daughter Elizabeth who married Wm. Hicklin. According to researcher Sherman Isbell, a great grandson of Wm. Hicklin (Jason Calvin Hicklin) transcribed the Bible of his uncle Hugh Hicklin (1810-1895) and grandfather Zachariah Hicklin (1774-1780); this transcription says that Sarah Isbell (who died 1841) was a sister of Littleton Isbell and that her husband was William Hicklin. In MY opinion (Elaine Kahler) this is conflicting information regarding who married William Hicklin. Thus, I am wondering, if perhaps Elizabeth really was Littleton's daughter and Sarah his sister.
Clarification about Sarah/or Elizabeth Isbell Hicklin who had: a daughter Mary (or Elizabeth?) who married a Rains:
Mrs. Mary Raines Fritts, 148 Cranwill Dr., Hendersonville, TN. 37075 wrote in Family Puzzlers Magazine #1047 (November 12, 1988), Danielsville, Georgia: Edmund Musco(e) Raines Sr., b. 1764 Essex Co., VA. (the one who died 1836 Morgan Co., GA) married first Mary Susan Hicklin (1789 in S.C.) (she died (1801) Morgan Co., GA.), "daughter of William Hicklin and Sarah *Isabel* of Lancaster Co., S.C. Raines won land, 10th District of Union Co., GA.; enrolled as a Revolutionary Veteran." Children of Edmund Musco(e) and Mary: 1. Frederick III b. 1795 Lancaster CO., SC (m. Catharine Elizabeth Boulware in Randolph Co., GA.; d. 1856) 2. Littleton b. 1799 Lancaster Co., S.C. m. Mary Cason in Fairfield Co, S.C. & d. 1855 at Winnsboro, S.C. Note: There was another son, William Greene Raines or Rains.
I am related to the Muscoe Garnett Boulware family on another line, descendants of Salvatore Muscoe whose daughter married William Boulware (according to the Muscoe Garnett family) or Mark Boulware (according to the Boulware family).
A Chart of Margaret Mitchell's ancestors compiled by James T. McConnell from the private papers of M.M.'s brother Stephens Mitchell (and signed by Stephens Mitchell) is published on page 244 of the History of Clayton CO., GA., and shows Mary Ann Dudley (m. Isaac Green Mitchell) was the daughter of George W. Dudley and wife Elizabeth "Raines."(nee Hicklin). Additional information comes from T. Euclid Rains, Dekalb County, Alabama, who descends from Dabney Rains, son of "Mary Elizabeth (Hicklin) Rains Dudley" (shown by others as Mary Susan Hicklin Rains).
On the Hicklin forum, William C. Hicklin shows William Hicklin's wife as Sarah Isbell born 1748 and their eldest daughter as Mary Susan Hicklin (b. c1769) who married Edmund Musco Raines b. c1764 Essex Co., VA.
All of the conflicting data has not been reconciled, but I hope I have not confused things further.
