I saw your 2001 posting re Hiddlestons in Dumfrieshire and also William and James of Mifflin Co. PA in 1786.My search in Mifflin Co. shows William using the name Hudelson, and his father-in-law James using the name Heddleston --- although there is a deed of sale of land to William which seems to read, "Heedelston."James is listed in the Mifflin County history as a "new name for 1772," and both William and James removed from Mifflin County to Bourbon Co. KY in 1796.(These two both are my ancestors.)
There is in the New Garden Collection at the Guilford College Library (Greensboro, NC), a 1967 book, "Genealogy of the Gordon-Macy, Hiddleston-Curtis and Allied Families," by Jessie Gordon Flack and Maybell Gordon Carman, which traces the Hiddlestons of Dumfrieshire.Several of this line removed from Scotland to Ohio, but I found no mention of any Hiddlesons or Hiddlestons in PA.
I'd appreciate any evidence that William Hudelson/Heddleston/Hiddleston actually came to PA from Ireland (as most researchers claim), and who his parents may have been.He is one of the mysteries in my research. Dave Hudelson
