If through your library or otherwise you can borrow a copy of John Wright Boyd's book "A FAMILY HISTORYLt. Thomas Fortson and Some of His Descendants", you will find my major set of leads into era of those you are seeking. The Fortson and the Higginbotham families seemed to be friends and neighbors for several generations and migrated across the south together starting in Virginia.A line of the Fortsons (Thomas & Elizebeth Winn Richards) moved from Virginia to Elbert Co, Georgia. The first Higginbotham connect appears (page 63) in Amherst Co, Virginia (Cap Samuel Higginbotham married Jane Satterwhite ca 1769). Samuel Higginbotham was the son of Aaron Higginbothan who was a child of John Higginbotham (born 1690 in Ireland died 1760 in Virginia).Sam's son George Green Higginbotham married Sallie Fortson. My line through William Fortson (son of Thomas Fortson) who married Ann Higginbotham (daughter of Sammuel & Jane)apparents to be in Georgia by 1793.Parts of both family lines remained in Elbert / Elberton, Georgia however both lines migrate on to Green County, Alabama (try http://magnolia.cyriv.com/http://magnolia.cyriv.com/ which gets you to a web site for Green County). Both families apparently had several connects both family and business for many years.I live in Texas and know the Fort Worth library has volumes on these lines.
