I have two Hightower lines in my ancestry (one blood and another by marriage) and I am posting the most recent information on my grandmother's side just in case someone is researching this family. This has been a difficult line as sometimes children have been listed on census data with incorrect last names, i.e. Campbell vs Hightower and Wilson vs. Hightower due to divorces and remarriages.
Per obituary information, (collaborated by census data) these two men were 1/2 brothers:John Samuel Hightower (b. abt.1853 d. 1915 Bibb Co., GA) and James H. Hightower.(b. abt. 1852) (Known children of John Samuel were Alva G. Hightower b. abt. 1887 and Samuel Hurlbert Hightower b. abt. 1885.) 3 of 4 children of James H. Hightower were Arthur Franklin Hightower b. abt. 1885, Robert Lee Hightower b. abt. 1887/1888, Clifford Eugene Hightower b. abt. 1895.Father of both (John Samuel and James H.) was William J. Hightower.Edith Rebecca Campbell was married to William J. Hightower 20 Aug 1846 in Bibb Co., GA.Date of divorce/separation is unknown.
This William J. Hightower is NOT the William J. Hightower who drowned with his son in 1847 and had married Phoebe Dillard. It appears this William J. Hightower was born in the 1820's.There is a William Hightower buried in Jones Chapel in Macon, Bibb Co., GA with headstone dates b 1824, d Nov 29, 1893.Not verified as my William J. Hightower, but suspected to be.
Would like to make contact with others researching this branch of Hightowers from Macon, Bibb Co. GA or with anyone that has information that could help r/o the William buried in Jones Chapel.
