I would love to see how you trace your line from Hannah Hill down through the 19th century or farther, if you are willing. I am especially keen to learn how she comes into Rutherford Co. TN!Your info could shed light on a major controversy surrounding this family--namely whether/how the Virginia-born sons from this family, Thomas and Swinfield, stay in Virgina and/or migrate into NC and TN in the 1700-1800s.
The following accounts are compilations from many serious researchers who post at these sites, not my own work.Based on their observations, I believe your Hannah is the daughter of Robert Hill and Vialeta Linus of Franklin Co.,VA.Robert was born in Dublin in 1714, the son of Swinfield Hill and Mary Wilson. His parents marriage, his birth (and possibly that of an older sister Johanah), and his father's death are all recorded in church records and can be ordered through FamilySearch (see below).
Robert married Vialeta (or Vilate or Vialet or Violet) Linus (b. 1721 in PA, d. 1803 in Franklin Co. VA), daughter of Thos Linus of Newprovidence, Philadelphia Co.
date of marriage:12 Mar or Sep 1741 (marriage published in Quaker marriage Certificates--Quaker calendar did not follow the British calendar of the time, so Jane Williams of the Friends Historical Library at Swarthmore College believes they were married in March.Records are available from Swarthmore.
place of marriage:Newgarden Township, Pensilvenia Provence, Philadelphia Co.
burial:Rocky Mt. VA with a DAR tombstone; the graves of Ann and Lucy Hill (possibly Robert's cousins, daughters of one Saml Hill, and witnesses to his wedding) are buried next to them.
According to the research compilations of Rebecca Dyer,Robt HIll and his family moved from Chester Co., PA down the Carolina Road aka Great Wagon Road) from Philadelphia to GA in the mid-to-late 1700s and settled in Lunenburg Co. in an area which became successively Halifax-->Pittsylvania-->Henry-->Franklin Counties, VA.
Robert and Vialeta had 7-9 children
1. Mary (b. 1748) + Barlet Wade
2. Thomas (b. ca. 1750 or 1754) + Aley Unk
3. Johanah (b. 24 Jan 1752)
4. Swinfield (b. 1743 or 1749 or 1758 + Martha Van Bibber--Swinfield's bio & stats are the most hotly contested in geneaology!
5. Hannah(b. 25 Mar 1754) + David Barton
Married 6 Apr 1782 in Henry Co. VA
6. Ruth (b. 28 Feb or 1 Apr 1758 (& died) in Franklin Co., VA, d 18 Mar 1841)
+ Walter/Robt Bernard (believe given name is Walter, may have been called
Robt),(b. 13 Feb 1758 In Frederick Co., MD, d. 5 Feb 1841 In Franklin Co., VA)
Walter married Ruth on 6 Apr 1782 in Henry Co., VA
I have also seen references to Ruth's marriage to a Swinfield Barton ( a second marriage?) who dies in Rutherford Co. ,TN.It might refer to a second marriage. If so, this marriage is likely to a brother-in-law, the brother of older sister’s (Hannah’s)husband, David Barton.
The 6 children above are mentioned in Robert Hill's will written in 1777.
8. unk male, killed by Indians during the French and Indian War
9. unk male, killed by Indians during the French and Indian War
One child, Linus or Johanah (??),is said to have been killed by a panther.

There are 1000s of references to this family posted here and at Ancestry, RootsWeb, etc.Have fun with this....and please consider posting your Hannah's line of descent.Have you encountered references to the possibility of a second marriage of Ruth Hill to a brother of David Barton??Is there a Swinfield Barton in David's family???
So many questions, so few definitive answers.
