It took me awhile to find it, but here is what I found:
I believe this is from the“Bedford County Historical Quarterly” (Bedford Co, Tennessee)
“The Brinkley Family” by Brice Brinkley, Thompson Creek, Shelbyville
ROBERT BRINKLEY was born in Orange County, North Carolina in 1791 where his father had a section (640 acres) of land.In 1810, he married Elizabeth (Betsey) LOW, born in 1790.The LOW’s came to Orange County around 1750 from Pennsylvania. They were farmers and church builders. Two congregations started by them are still in the Orange County area. There are Low’s Lutheran at Liberty, North Carolina and Brick Church earlier called Low’s and Clapp’s Church.David Low, born 1780, died 1872, buried in the Shofner Cemetery, is possibly a brother of Elizabeth as they were heirs to land on Thompson’s Creek.SHOFNERs and HORNADAYs in the area are his descendants.Robert BRINKLEY’s sister, Elizabeth, married Benjamin PHILLIPS in Orange County in 1810.Later they settled in the Center Church community of Bedford County. Many of their descendants live in that area today.Another sister of Robert BRINKLEY married John ISLEY (EISLE) in Orange County.A John ISLEY and wife are in the Thompson’s Creek area in the 1830 census.
Robert BRINKLEY of English descent, lived in the midst of a German settlement, estimated at one time to have been ten thousand.German families near the BRINKLEYs to leave for Bedford County were: LOWs, SHOFNERs, HORNADAYs, ANTHONYs, HOLTs, COBLEs, TROXLERs, CORTNERs, HUFFMANs, CLAPPsand others.
Land adjoining Robert Brinkley in Bedford County, farm south of Ledford’s Mill, has deeds mentioning “The Robert BRINKLEY improvement of 1826,” which is the earliest proof of this arrival into Bedford County.None of his land was ever recorded.Four of his children had land recorded in the immediate area that they apparently inherited from him.In the 1840 census, Robert isn’t listed with Elizabeth and in 1850, she is listed for the last time.Their death dates and place of burial is unknown.
