What you have posted is all fitting. The source of my information about George Simpson is a lady named Linnet froma rootsweb forum who did a lookup for me. This is what I got back from her. -----------------------
Hope this helps:
George Hird married Hannah Simpson 26/10/1834 in Bradford, Yorkshire - although it seems strange that the rest of the family's main events went on in Keighley so I hope this is right!
Eliza Hird was christened on 16/8/1835, Henry 22/5/1836, Thomas 25/8/1839 & Sarah 11/12/1842 all in Keighley
Hannah Simpson was christened 23/6/1819 in Keighley - her parents were George Simpson and Margaret Hunter who married 24/6/1811 in Keighley.I think Margaret was born 12/1/1792 and christened 23/1/1792 in Keighley although the records call her "Peggy" . Her mother was called Anne Hunter and no father is mentioned
George Hird was christened 9/5/1815 in Keighley - parents John Hird and Ellen Huh
It may be worth asking for a look up on the 1841 and 1851census for Keighley for the family.
If you need any more help let me know ----------------------------------------------
What her source of information was I have no way of knowing.
Everything you tell me ties in with the family here in Australia. Yes there were 8 children to Henry and Catherine McArthur, 3 of whom died young. My tie in here is that I am the Granddaughter of Flora Isabella Hird who married Charles Edgar Tonkin and had 10 children.
The letter from Arthur S. Hird would be Arthur Simpson Hird son of Henry and Catherine McArthur. He was born in Yandoit 1876 and died in Daylesford (near Yandoit) 1961. Arthur was married to Christina Dorothea/Dorothy Fleischer but from my research and what Mum has told me they didn't have any children. I don't know who the Olga (possibly a stepdaughter or neice?)is but if I mention the name to my aunt it might jog her memory. My aunt is Winsome Merle Tonkin, daughter of Flora Isabelle Hird and Charles Edgar Tonkin, who married William Edward Harris. All except 2 of the 10 children that Flora and Charles had are still living.
My email is firstname.lastname@example.org I would love to get a transcript of the letter from Arthur Simpson Hird and to be honest I am just really excited to have contact with an English relative. I will be more than happy to provide you with any information I can about the Australian branch of the family.
I have to go out now but will be back in touch later tonight. I'm just about jumping up and down.
