I have now made more progress on finding out about my ancestor.Robert HIRD (actually born 5 November 1822; the date in the title of the post was the date of birth of his sister Hannah) was the son of Benjamin Hird of Howarth (b. c. 1779) and Jane Loice GORE of London (b. c. 1791), who were married at St Peter's Bradford on 9 June 1822.From these dates, you will note that was something of a shotgun wedding!Jane was Benjamin's second wife, his first being Olive ETCHELLS.
Benjamin married Olive in 1801 in Prestbury, Cheshire. The children of this first marriage were Joseph (b. 1804), Ann (b. 1806), Charles (b. 1808), Jonas (b. 1810), Mary (b. 1814), John Rowbotham (b. 1817) and Benjamin (b. 1819).All but the last two children were baptised in Macclesfield, Cheshire, with the last two of this marriage being baptised in Denholme, Yorkshire.
Benjamin is known to have had a brother Robert.(We found out about Robert from a letter that his nephew, my g-g-gf Robert, wrote to a cousin in New Zealand.)From my New Zealand connection, I learned that he also had other siblings John (b. 1866), Ellen (b. 1868), Sibil (b. 1770), Mary (b. 1773) and Dinah (b. 1775), all apparently christened in Keighley.Their parents were yet another Benjamin Hird and Anne Hey (b. 1747 in Haworth).
