I received this e-mail from a very kind & informative contact re the Hodder surname. The rest is an exact quote of her e-mail.
Lionel Hodder b 20 May 1786 in Uplyme, Devon, England d 1859/1860 in Salt Lake City, salt Lake, Utah.
sarah Huxford Hodder b 4 Jan 1791 in Uplyme, Devon, England d. 20 Sep 1868 Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah.
Both Lionel and Sarah came to the United States on the ship "Gamillus" it left Liverpool, England on 4-6-1853 and arrived in New orleans, Louisiana on 6-7-1853. They travelled with Harriett their 19 year old daughter who married on the ship a Thomas Flowers. Then they came west with a wagon train. I have not been able to verify which one but beleive it to be in the garn Company which came west 7-2-54. This is the one I think due to the fact that Harriett had her first child on the plains and it was born during this time frame.
Sarah hodder Granter- my g-g-grandmother had already came to Utah in 1850. She was settled in the Salt lake City area. I have written a story about her and if you are interested I will e-mail it to you.
I believe the only other child to come to the United States was Henry. On a film that I found showing the Bridport Records it shows him as immigrating in 1855. I have not been able to find him in any other records here though.
Snipped... I am sorry that we do not have an exact date of death for Lionel but at the time he died it was common practice to keep the records in the church area and the area they lived, the records were destroyed by a fire. I narrowed it down by a census and the fact that at one point Sarah Hodder moved in with Srah Granter my g-g-grandmother.
End of quote---------
Interestingly enough as my records here show one: Eli Hodder broen.. 1833 at Uplyme, Devonshire England. Eli arrived from devonshire at Sydney Cove on 28.6.1855 on the ship "Libertas" at the age of 23. Eli was classified as a labourer at the time.
His father's name was Lionel Hodder and his mother was Sarah Wyatt they were living in California U.S.A. when Eli arrived in Australia.
