I am trying to get information on the Hodges family that migrated to Watauga Co NC possibly in the early 1800s. This line of Hodges settled in the far western part of the county in the Mabel/Cove Creek/Zionville are. My grandfather Isaac Hodges parents were William Henry Hodges and Mary Elizabeth Yarber. Grandfather Isaac died in 1948 and his parents died in 1928. I think William Henry's father was also named William. He may have been the first Hodges to come to that part of Watauga.
Some references show one branch of Hodges moving from Mecklenburg Co NC and were associated with the McNee and McGuire families. One line of McGuires has lived in Ashe Co NC for many generations. The patriarc, Patrick McGuire, immigrated from Ireland in 1764 and settled in Rowan Co NC. Ashe was formed from parts of several counties, including part of Rowan, in 1799. I mention the McGuires because this is one of my maternal family surnames.
There seems to be three distinct Hodges family lines in Watauga, seemingly not related to each other. This has made research past my great grandfather William Henry Hodges quite dificult. Any help on this particular line of Hodges in NC will be appreciated.
