Further to my initial posting, I am now confident that John Hodges married Mildred Spencer (widow, nee Browne) in 1707 at St Ann Blackfriars in London. This marriage was by Vicar General Marriage Licence, and the signature on this matches very strongly the signature on the will of John Hodges, gentleman of Caldecote, as do the John Hodges signatures as witnesses to 2 deeds relating to property in Nuneaton. John Hodges of Caldecote is now also known to have been a "faithful servant" to Sir Nathan Wrighte, who was Keeper of the Great Seal of England 1700-1795. He may also have been a servant in the Privy Chamber, but this still has to be proved. However, in spite of all this additional information, I am still unable to trace his parentage, or the baptisms of his 4 eldest children - John, Anne, Mary and Elizabeth - all presumable born between 1797 and 1714. Any help would be much appreciated!
