I live in the state of Massachusetts in the U.S.My maiden name is Hodkinson.A few years ago, I had started a genealogy search but ran into many dead ends for my father's family.
I have been searching for information on my great grandfather, Isaac Hodkinson. He was born in England but no one seems to have much information on him.Relatives have told me that he was from "Lancaster, Underline, England" and served in Queen Victoria's Army.He died around 1905 in the U.S., possibly in Warren, Rhode Island.
In checking the Ellis Island website, I have concluded that his name was probably spelled Hodgkinson with the 'g' being dropped in the U.S.The only other details that I know are that he had 1 son named Harold, born in the U.S.
With help from a friend in Australia, we may have determined that, in the 1881 census, Isaac lived in Fulbeck, Lincoln, England and was 10 years old.His mother was Mary Ann, his father was deceased (also named Isaac), and he had 2 sisters (Monica and Daisy) and 3 brothers (Edwin, Herbert, and John). We are not sure if this is the correct Isaac, but it was the only one who's age matched that old enough to serve in Queen Victoria's War and who was also listed in the Ellis Island records.
Does this information match anything that anyone might have come across in their research?I would appreciate any info that anyone might have since I have hit nothing but dead ends in researching this branch of my family tree.
