He attended East High School in Des Moines (1927), Drake Univ. 2 years, and completed Northwestern Univ. in Chicago in 1931, majoring in Insurance. He worked for the Insurance Co. of North America as a Field Agent until l946, at which time he started his own insurance agengy in DSM. He was an independent agent until his death in l970. He was active in the Des Moines Community Playhouse and its predecessor, the Kendall Theater in the 1950-60s, as well as the Masons and fraternity SAE. He had a summerhouse on Southshore Dr., Clear Lake, IA from 1935 until his death. He married Valetta Florence Hoff of Hedrick, IA on 1 Sep 1934 at grace Methodist Church, and they lived at 692-48th St., DSM, IA until his death. He never served in the military due to a physical injury to his ankle. He was in the first Troop of Boy Scouts of America in Iowa in 1921 (Tp.53) but did not achieve the rank of Eagle, which he regretted. He was active in the Kendall Theater and the Des Moines Community Playhouse.He had 2 sons: John Scott Hoff (B: 02 Jan 1946), and Robert Tennant Hoff (B: 4 Jun 1948), and an older adopted son, Edward A. Hoff.He was survived by his wife and 2 younger sisters: Jeanne Beatrice Hoff Goodwin (1911 - 2001) and Doris Mae Hoff Hohl (1913-1997).
