JOHN BARON HOFF (b:1984, age 24), of Winnetka, IL, son of Colonel JOHN SCOTT HOFF, USAF (Ret.), who graduated from the Univ. of Illinois in May 2007, is now a First Officer with American Eagle Airlines, flying the EMB 145 Regional Jet based at Chicago-O'Hare Airport (ORD). He is also a Staff Sgt.(E-5) in the Air National Guard.He transfered in March 2008 as a Crew Chief in the F-16 fighter aircraft from the Springfield Illinois ANG base to the 132 Fighter Wing, Iowa ANG, Des Moines (DSM), IA. He was recently selected by his DSM National Guaard unit for commissioning as a 2/Lt in the Iowa ANGHe will attend the Academy of Military Science at McGhee-Tyson ANG Base, TN for 6 weeks. Then, he will attend a 4 week Introduction to Flight Systems (IFS) in Pueblo, CO in Sep-Oct 2009.There, he will fly the Diamond DA-20 single engine aircraft. Following that,in Oct 2009,he will report for one year of Active Duty for Training (ADT) and pilot training at USAF Undergraduate Pilot Training (UPT) with the 14th Flying Training Wing at Columbus AFB, Mississippi.He will train in the USAF T-6II turboprop trainer, and then after 6 months he will transition into the T-38 Northrop Talon supersonic trainer.He will receive his USAF silver "wings in Oct 2010. Then from there, he will proceed with a second year of advance flying training from October 2010-11 with Fighter Transition Upgrade (FTU) into the USAF F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft at Luke AFB, AZ.Upon completion of that, he will be left on Active Duty with his Air Guard unit in Des Moines, and will fly full-time for the ANG for two more years. He will then be "discharged" after 4 years of Extended Active Duty (EAD), and revert to being a "traditional reservist/guardsman", drilling on weekends, and reverting to his civilian airline flying job with American Eagle.
