Mary Angela (Hoff) Dennis of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away Wednesday evening, November 04, 2009 at Bishop Drumm Retirement Center, located in Johnston, Iowa.
Mary was born on December 2, 1915 in Des Moines where she lived most of her life. She graduated from North High School in 1934. In 1937, Mary was united in marriage to Robert M. Dennis, Jr. and blessed with four children. She was an active member of Catholic Daughters, serving Regent, and was a member of St. Peter's and St. Pius X churches.
Mary was an avid swimmer and known for her meatballs and "travel bars." She fulfilled two lifelong dreams: visiting all 50 states, seeing all 50 capitol buildings, and visiting Ireland, which was a gift from her children for her and her husband's 50th wedding anniversary.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. today, November 8, at Westover Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be held at Bishop Drumm Chapel at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, November 9. Burial will follow mass and will be at Sunny Hill Cemetery in Grimes, Iowa.
Mary is survived by her four children, Deanne (Dennis) Johnson (Gary); Pat (Dennis) Palmer; Mike Dennis (Kevin Sue); Harry Dennis (Liz); 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Robert Dennis Jr.; her parents, Harry and Angela (Kean) Hoff; her brothers, Raymond Hoff, Edward Hoff, Andrew Hoff, and Paul Hoff; her son-in- law, Dale D. Palmer; and great-grandson, Zachary Palmer.
