This JONATHAN HOFF/HUFF was about the same age as AMOS HOFF (1775-1855), and it is my belief that he married wife Agatha (POSSIBLY McGraw) sometime between 1795 and 1800. He had already followed his mother Prudence Sutton Hoff's brothers to the York County, South Carolina, area just a few years before the others, including his parents.
It looks like this Jonathan was in late 30s or early 40s when he died there in York co., SC in 1815, the year before his father, POWELL HOFF (#2).
I have been able to prove he left 5 young children of various ages at his death. One named John D. Huff was just a toddler at his death. The children I have been able to document and prove by courthouse records of Jonathan and Agatha Hoffs (the spelling appears to have changed from HOFF to HUFF) are these:
1. Daughter:Pamela/called "Permilia" Huff on some records married John Horsley.
2. Son:Alexander Huff of many records in York , S.C.
3. Daughter:Nancy Huff married Thomas Kellogg
4. Son:John D. Huff
5. Son: Amos Huff. And yes, we have another "name sake" I can prove by the first name of AMOS.I can prove by courthouse records that this AMOS HOFF died as a teenager - and left no children or wife.
These are 100% "paper-proven" to have been the only children of Jonathan Hoff/Huff - brother to AMOS HOFF (1775-1855), son of POWELL HOFF/HUFF(II)(d: 1816 York Co., C), and wife PRUDENCE SUTTON HOFF/HUFF.
Thanks so much for the documents coming from New Jersey,
