Thanks to some great, recent proof-positive DNA testing, and some outstanding paper-proven genealogical research and "sleuthing" by my cousin, LARRY HUFF (of Frankfort, KY) and DIANE LONG (Santa Barbara), I am now satisfied that "my" POWELL HOFF's (1801 VA-1872 IA) father was AMOS HOFF (1775 VA-1855 IA), and that his father was a POWEL/POWELL HOFF/HUFF of Turkey Creek, York Co., SC (1746-1816).There were several JOHN HOFFs "upstream" in this line, and I will try to "link-up" one of them to "your" MARGARET HOFF (1764-1854).
Regarding the JOHN HOFF (a/k/a JONATHAN F. HOFF)(1775-1812) son of the Rev. DANIEL HOFF and SOPHIA MOFFETT HOFF, who came from Pr. William Co., VA, migrating in 1805 to OH (who I believed for 10+ years was my 3XG grandfather), he never lived in any of the locations you mentioned.I formerly believed that he was the father of "my" POWELL HOFF (my 2XG grandfather); but I have since been persuaded that AMOS HOFF was "the guy".So, there were numerous JOHN HOFFs (me, my father, my grand father, and 1XG grandfather, etc., included) laced throughout our Hoff lines.
