Dear Cuz John:There are a couple of thoughts about this Huff/Hoff line of Jim Hoffman's up-stream Hoff line.
He is correct that some of Rut Johnson's downstream folks ended up in the same area of now West Virginia, and I beleive there was a marriage between this Huff and Johnson clans.
However if Jim is talking about the family that includes John Huff born about 1773 and died in the 1860s line , we had tracked out his gggg grandson for a Y-dna test kit and they are not the male line offsprings of Derrick Pauluszen Hoff, as you and I are .
This John Huff test kit number 191860 listed on our Family Tree Hough dna public chart shows the results of haplo group R1B1a2 while we know all of Derrick Pauluszen Hoff's male grandchildren lines has the Q haplo group.
A simple 37 marker y-dna test for any male Huff/Hoff/Hough/Hoof will 100% iron clad prove any of Derrick Pauluszen's Dutch offsprings .
It is possible there were 2 different Huff/Hoff clans in the same area of now West Virginia, and also possible one of them in the future will be proven as one of our "Dutch" Hoff cousins.
Here is what the late Granville Hough had as possiblities on this area.
Anthony HOFF (1760/1770 - after 1830 prob. Harrison Co, WV) may be the Anthony HOUGH who on 12 Apr 1785 was sworn to be the heir-at-law of William HOUGH, deceased, who died in the Continental Army.John HOUGH made the statement, and he may have been uncle to Anthony.There seens no further record in Loudoun Co., VA as HOUGH.
Anthony Hough appeared in Harrison Co., VA, in 1820 with a family, and his origin, as far as the birth of a son is concerned, was Loudoun Co., VA.Where he went after 1830 is not known.Two sons and one daughter are definitely identified through marriage records of Harrison Co.Records for a son indicates the wife was Letitia (- d before 1830 Harrison Co, VA).

Cornelius HOFF was a Baptist minister who served in Harrison, Ritchie, and Wood counties.He was in the Parkersburg Association of the Baptist Church.No ch have been identified for this couple.
Probable ch or other relatives, based on the fact that both moved to Barbour Co along with John HOFF:
a. Henson L. Hoff (1805 VA - after 1880) on 19 Apr 1828 in Harrison Co, WV, md Anna RIGHTMERE, and their four ch were Granville, Sophia, Laman; and William. H.By 18t0, Henson L. had md (2) Emily H. ??? (1819 VA -) and they had added Hartzell E. and Orlando P.By 1870, Henson L. had md (3) Elizabeth M. ??? , but no more ch were listed.Henson lived in 1840 in Harrison Co.By 1860, he had joined other HOFF families in Barbour Co, VA.In 1860, Elizabeth Ann CAPLANER (1850 VA) was with the family as a poss. step-dau.Most of his family remained in Barbour Co.
b. Levi Hoff (1792 VA -)md Catherine ??? and lived in Harrison Co, prob through 1844.By 1850, he had joined John HOFF in the move to Barbour Co.They may have had a son who d young and a dau named Matilda.
One possible person who did not make the move was Abraham (- inventory 12 Sep 1839) on 18 Feb 1830 md Mary WATERS () with Jacob BENNETT performing the ceremony.Abraham lived in Harrison Co in 1830, and his widow was still there Co in 1840.It appears there were four daughters and one son.Abraham was close to and older John HOFF in 1830 and may have been his son.
Hoff lineage is Anthony and Lettia () of VA; prob. William Huff/Hoff of Lee's Legion;
