Hofferts from Alsace
Here is what I've just received from France:
Jean Jacques Hoffert (John Jacob) son of Philippe & Anne Marie BOLLER HOFFERT, b. 3/10/1830, Horbourg, Sundhoffen, Alsace.Jean Jacques m. Anne Marie WALCH 2/10/1852, Horbourg, Sundhoffen.Anne Marie was the d. of Jonas & Marie Barbe SCHULLER WALCH. Children of Jean Jacques and Anne Marie Walch were:
Anne Marieb. 8/4/1852
Jean Jacquesb. 4/9/1854
Catherineb. 5/22/1855
Philippeb7/12/1858
Sophieb. 12/23/1860
Jonasb. 1/12/1863
Louisb. 9/12/1864
Fredericb. 5/22/1865
Hopefully someone will recognize one of these individuals and will be able to fill in one of the "missing" spaces in their family tree. Please note that the Germans followed the Scots in the naming of male babies after their fathers and grandfathers. It also appears as if the girls were also named after their respective mothers and grandmothers. That should also help you in your investigations of sources of names.
The name of Hoffert was evidently quite strong in the southern portion of Sundhoffen as there were some 67 names mentioned in old records.
