Although it is several years since the last posting aboutWilliam Holdsworth (b. 1824)I am hoping to make contact with anyone researching this family! My great-great grandfather was Joseph Burdekin Holdsworth, born c. 1823 in Yorkshire, brother to William Holdsworth, eldest son of John Holdsworth and Elizabeth Burdekin. The Archives Office, NSW, lists the arrival of John & Elizabeth, with five children (plus 'Miss Holdsworth'?)on the 'Platina' - dep. London 14th Oct. 1835 -arr. Sydney, 17th Feb. 1836. A Newspaper cutting from the day lists six children & from my family information this appears to be correct i.e.Joseph Burdekin (b.1823); William (b.1824); Richard (b.1825/26); Thomas (b.1827); Louisa (b.1829); John (b. 1835)- all born in Yorkshire. Another child, Harry Wilson was born 1838 in Sydney. Joseph Burdekin & William later married 2 sisters: Eliza & Jane Dobson - we have family history going back to Thomas West for this branch! JB Holdsworth's eldest son was also Joseph Burdekin (b. 7-2-1851) who married Elizabeth Jane Gardyne in 1873. They had 16 children, the youngest child , Eric Gardyne Holdsworth (b. 1894) being my grandfather. I have been trying to follow up John Holdsworth (b. 1799) and the Sheffield steel mills as well. I think John's parents were Richard Holdsworth & Margaret Wilson - but I don't have any further information & I'm hoping someone else can help - please! It is fascinating doing family research but also quite frustrating to follow up the records in other countries.
