Kay, You have no idea how much you have helped me in the past three years!!Simply by your generosity in sharing your information on GenForum, Ancestry's message boards, etc.
My husband's family members were from Saline and Grant Counties, Arkansas on the maternal side.Since my beginnings in Feb 1999, I have learned so much about the how's, why's etc. of family research.Since then I have also learned just how many of the surnames in the families are intertwined with others.
Through your information I am now able to put together a "tree" for my husband's elderly Aunt...Mary THELMA WALKER, daughter of GEORGE T. WALKER and MILLIE HOLIMAN.She married the brother to my Jim's mother...Radford Raymond Ray, son of WILLIAM SEABORN (SEAB) RAY and his third wife, LAURA JANE CRIGLOW, daughter of JOHN S. CRAIGLOW and MARY ELIZABETH (BETTY) BURTON, who latermarried a John S. Poe).
The Burton ancestors had Poe, Stuckey, Hicks, and a few other shared surnames. The Walker line had Holiman, Poe, Hogue, Brence, etc. The Criglow line has its share.
Then there are the Willinghams. My own line includes Willingham from my maternal grandfather. They were in the Memphis, TN, and Kentucky areas so I never dreamed there would be any sort of connection.
I am just amazed. Now I have the task lessened by you.I have observed that your research seems to be documented, so even though I have noted a few others that post some of the same information, I want you to know that your work is appreciated.Greedy me.I would hope to one day have a document for every single individual. We both know that isn't going to happen!Well, maybe in about 20 years.
For your information: The surnames from our lines are: RAY, CRIGLOW/CRAIGLOW, BURTON, POE, BROTHERTON, HORN, YOUNG.
From his Aunt Thelma's line: WALKER, HOLIMAN, BRUMBELOW, BRENCE, REYNOLDS, WRIGHT, CHAMBERS, to name the main ones.
My documentation so far is rather limited to a couple of generations. However, I have been in touch with those who know their own lines. One, Gary Criglow, now a Lt. Commander in the Navy, who's ancestor is Albert Edmund Criglow, brother to Laura Jane Criglow, my husband's maternal grandmother.
I also correspond with Buddy Knight who's grandmother was Sallie Sanders, second wife to Seab Ray. Born quite late in his mother's life, Buddy grew up knowing absolutely nothing about his mother's family; as did my husband about his.
I corresponded a couple of times with wife of Ray Horn, who descended from Washington Van Vert Horn who married Della Ray, much older sister to Lexie Belle Ray, by Seab's first wife.It was Della who outlived Van and married Charles Brotherton.I spoke by phone with the widow of Charles' son Doyle.
So, I am gathering information first hand when I am able to do so.My gleanings will never be a "reliable" source, but I am content to plod along.
Forgive the babbling.I simply could not go another glut of information from a Kay Blevins posting without telling her THANK YOU!
