I have been having a little look round and it is just a hypothesis at the moment, but this branch of the family seem to have come to Rugeley via another William, who married Sarah Dorrington in Rugeley on 16th Dec 1756 as there don't seem to be any Hollins in Rugeley before then.
I have the Hamstall Ridware BMDs from the 1700s fom the Birmigham and Staffs Family History Soc on microfiche, so I will check this out on my next visit to the local library, which hasa reader.
However, as a working hypothesis, if William, father of our respective ancestors, is the one christened in Hamstall Ridware on 17th Dec 1797, then his parents are William and Sarah - unlikely to be the ones married in Rugeley in 56, so there is probably another generation in there.
Then William in the graveyard in HR 1705-1771 would probably be two generations further back.
However, this does seem to be an offshoot of the main family as there are quite a few of them, many called John, out at Abbotts Bromley, which is about 7 miles north of HR.
