re: John Charles Tunstall. I was tracking down the arrival of my maternal great grandfather, John Charles Tunstall (I have a copy of his birth certificate), from the UK when I noticed your message on the website. My great grandfather,John Charles Tunstall, arrived in Australia with his family on the Duke of Devonshire on 2 April, 1883. My grandfather, Thomas Tunstall or Thomas Ousman Tunstall (the family records show his name as Thomas Tunstall though the Ipswich City Council records show his name as Thomas Ousman Council) was a city councillor and he had a street named after him in 2009 - Tunstall Place. Thomas Tunstall was born at Fenton Stoke on Trent on 21 November, 1868 and died at Ipswich on 2 August, 1939. He is buried in the Ipswich General Cemetery though his name does not appear on the headstone. John Charles Tunstall is a descendant of Sir Thomas Tunstall and Sir Richard Tunstall who was the chamberlain to Henry VI. Both Sir Thomas TRunstall and Sir Richard Tunstall were bowbearers to the King. The name was originally de Tunstall and so I wonder whether there were Norman connections.
