Since posting my original email, I have found out a lot more.In my family, the name was originally spelled HOLZSCHUH, but was changed to HOLSHOE.It appears as HULZSHUE in one census, and I have seen various other spellings. One descendant changed it to HOLZSHER.
My HOLZSCHUHs apparently were from Saxony, and came to the US somewhere between 1851 and 1856.They settled in the Baltimore and Harford County, Maryland areas. The mother's name was Christina, and the sons were Henry (born about 1851 in Saxony), George (born 1856 in Maryland) and Frederick (born about 1867 in Maryland).I haven't found the father's name yet.
