Funeral services for the Rev. Tom H. Honea, 70, were held Sunday afternoon, March 31, at 1 o'clock, in the Mahl Baptist Church, with the Rev. Tom Mitchell, pastor of the Paint Rock Methodist Church, officiating. Interment was in the Mahl cemetery. Ministers who were assisted in the services were the Rev. Roy Alford of Garland, the Rev. Dewey Morgan of Dallas, the Rev. R.C. Vance of Livingston, and the Rev. Preston Cochran of Laurel, Miss. All four are Baptist ministers. The Rev. Mr. Honea died Friday afternoon, March 29, at 2:30 o'clock, from injuries received in an automobile accident earlier Friday four miles north of Nacogdoches. He was born March 7, 1887, in the Linn Flat community in Nacogdoches County, the son of Martha Byrd and Sam Honea, and was married to Bertha Hogan Honea, who survives him. The Rev. Mr. Honea had lived his entire lifetime in Nacogdoches county, and has been a Baptist minister for over 40 years. At the time of his death he was pastor of the Mahl Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Woodmen of the World. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Bertha Honea of Nacogdoches; one daughter, Mrs. Hall Clifton of Newton; five sons, R.V. Honea of Livingston, R.M. Honea of Nacogdoches, Thomas Honea of Orange, Luke Honea of Winnie and John Honea of Port Arthur; 29 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Also surviving are five step-daughters, Mrs. Harry Bryson of Winnie, Mrs. Ester Matthews of Dallas, Miss Mable Singleton of Baytown, Mrs. Joy Ball of Albuquerque, N.M., and Mrs. H.E. Chandler of Nacogdoches; three step-sons, Bill Graham of Nacogdoches, Dr. John Edmund Hogan of Big Spring and Ancil Hogan of Houston. The Rev. Mr. Honea had been pastor of the Mahl Baptist Church for the last twenty years. Pallbearers were George Thomas Honea, J.R. Honea, Robert Wayne Nelson, John Turner, Jack Matthews, Jack Dale Miller, Earl Nelson, and Hurley Nelson, all of Nacogdoches and all grandsons of Mr. Honea. Cason, Monk and company funeral home was in charge of arrangements.
