A memorial service was Thursday at Sandy Springs Chapel.
Mr. Hooks, 80, died of apparent heart failure last Saturday at Piedmont Hospital.
Mr. Hooks was state director of the FHA 1968 to 1971, managing the federal housing insurance program for the state. Earlier he was president of Roy D. Warren Co., a real estate mortgage banking firm in Atlanta.
Cary Solomon Hooks was born April 10, 1911, in Montezuma, the son of William W. Hooks, a peach farmer, and Mary Sue Solomon Hooks. He was a 1932 graduate of Auburn University and served in the Army in World War II, retiring from the Army Reserve with the rank of colonel.
He belonged to the First Baptist Church of Montezuma.
Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Espy Hooks, and a sister, Sarah Sanders of Bethesda, Md.
