Virgil Hoppes Born 10 May 1890, the only child of David Erastus and Margaret Stinson Hoppes. He married Ruth Summers, born 21 Dec. 1888, and they had 5 children;Margaret Eloise, David, Ella Marie, Dean Edward and Ralph Clinton Hoppes. Cousin s of Virgil who were neighbors tell that Virgil's mother dressed him in long dresses for several years after he garduated from the infant stage. Also, they enjo telling the story about Virgil's mother washing Virgil's face with rhubarb juice. She contineud to do this even after he was in school. Virgil becase sick and tired of this treatment and one day heclimbed to the top of a tree in the yard and refused to come down. His father could not coax him down until he promised that there would be no more face washings with rhubarb juice.
