Has anyone discovered any information linking John Hopton I of Pennsylvania who died in Greene Co, TN in 1797 at the age of 77 to any of the early Hoptons in Pennsylvania. His sons were named:
Aaron b. abt 1749/1759 in PA William b. abt May 1754, prob. Wilmington Co. DE John II (Jr.) b. ? Stephen Sr. b.abt 1754 m/d in Logan Co,KY Enoch Abner d. in Sampson Co, NC Ann Mary
It would seem that the SC/IL Hoptons did originate in Pennsylvania, then spread out considerably, some going to Deleware, Kentucky, others to North Carolina, and later to Tennessee and Illinois, and it looks like Ohio, as well.Any ideas on the common progenitor.I know the descendants ofJohn Hopton haven't seemed to be able to get anything earlier than him.
