We were researching in Jefferson, Jackson County, GA and we ran across something interesting. I have no idea how it ties in with the other HOPTON data, just thought I would share it with everyone.
On a book about the BORDERS Family, my husband ran across the name ABNER JOHN HOPTON BORDERS.Interesting huh!
Apparently a Michael BORDERS was born in NC(?) sometime in the 1700's and married a Mary. Mary is believed to be a Mary HOPTON. I am sure the researchers were getting that name from the child's name. They also stated that she was probably the daughter of John HOPTON, but I think we have to look into the Abner connection also, the researchers may not have realized that Abner was also a Hopton family name. Michael died ca. 1804 in Jackson County, GA. No other information is available on Mary. They had several children - but the copy machine was broke so we only wrote down information on A.J.H. BORDERS as follows:
ABNER JOHN HOPTON BORDERS was born 1824 in Jackson County, GA d. 1886. He m (1) Sarah Griffin 1825 Abbeville, SC and (2) Mary E. Goodlett
Abner had a son: ABNER HOPTON BORDERS b. 1856 AL d. 1945 m. Ann Maude Locke b. 1872 MN. They moved to Texas
Their son ABNER JOHN HOPTON BORDERS b. 1888 Coryell, TX d. 1975 Taylor, TX m. Mary Lavisa James 1914 Runnels, TX
My husband also listed a JOHN HOPTON BORDERS b. 1903 in AL. The way he has him listed it looks like he is also the son of Abner and Ann Maude Locke. I'll have to check that out the next time we find that book.
Hope this offers some clues to the HOPTON researchers.
