Horan/Clarkin, New Brunswick, New Jersey
I am just beginning to trace my ancestors. This is what I have so far.My great-grandmother was Mary Catherine Horan (1891-1985), daughter of Martin Horan and Mary Clarkin.Mary Catherine's siblings (we think) were Frank, Matthew, William, Agnes (died as a child) and Annie. We belive that they lived on Richardson Street in New Brunswick, New Jersey.Martin may have worked at a place (factory?) known as the Jam.He was also a fireman in N.B., Hibernian fire company.
Mary Catherine Horan's baptismal certificate (Saint Peter's) says her sponsors were Martin Lalley and Anne Horan.Mary Catherine (Mame) married William (Bill) Ross. They may have lived in Rahway for a few years, and then returned to New Brunswick (we think Easton Avenue and/or Hamilton Street). We think Bill had sisters in Plainfield, no names yet.Bill worked on the railroad. They had two children, Matthew (unmarried, died when he was about 30), and my grandmother Mary Delores (Mazie, 1914-1964) Ross, married to Alfred (Boomie) Sahn (they also lived in New Brunswick, and then Edison). The Horan's or Clarkin's supposedly came from County Leitrim, Ireland.
Also, we seem to remember mention of relatives on the Clarkin side named Armstrong in Philadelphia.
Any information and/or advice for the beginner would be greatly appreciated.
