Re: Information on Jerusha Wheat
William Edward Burkhart, Jr. 4/26/14
First let me correct my brain fart on the last post. Barnabas and Jerusha Wheat had 7 kids that are easily recognized. The 8th was William Harrison Horton. Barnabas and his brother Silas Danes/Mary McClean both had sons named William Harrison Horton.
The one attributed to Barnabas was b 18 Jul 1813 and married Prudence S Warner. He died 1847.
The one attributed to Silas Danes was b 18 Jan 1814 and married 1st Matilda Rolf; moved to MI. He died 12 Jun 1883.
You asked about birth, marriage, death records. At that time in the late 1700's, early 1800's the only records were either in a family Bible or the local church.
The best places to start with most NY Hortons is 'Hortons in America' and 'Chronicles of the Descendents of Barnabas Horton of Southhold, LI, 1640.' But as everyone realizes they are both at best, guidelines, with errors. Then you have to start tracking down the church records. Luckily for you, a book exists that obviously had done just that. 'Historic Homes and Institutions and Genealogical and family History of New York.'

If you have a good outline of your early NY Hortons go to 'The Salmon Records.' Hard to follow.

Many Orange Co records can be found in 'The Early Records of the First Presbyterian Church at Goshen, NY;'
If you have access to the microfilm for The Newburgh Gazette, you can possibly track down some more info on William Harrison's death in 1847.
