According to an IGI entry Mary Kairns, m. Isaac Newland, b. abt 1767 in Ohio Co., VA (WV) on 27 Nov 1792. The ceremony was conducted by John B. Rice, Presbyterian minister.
Another IGI report notes Isaac Newland was b. abt. 1767, m. Mary Kerns, abt 1792, VA. A Pedigree Chart indicates Mary Kerns, b. abt 1767 was d/o Henry Karns, b. abt. 1740 of Frederick Co., VA who m. Catherine (Hansonbella) Hotzenbella aka Hotsinpiller.Catherine, b. abt 1742 d. bef. 1776, Greenbriar Co.,VA.Catherine was d/o of Stephen Hotzenbella, b. abt 1710 and d. Apr 1776, Frederick Co., VA.
ANDElizabeth Brumback, b. about 1715/16 Muesen, d. abt 1767.Elizabeth was d/o Melchior Brumback and Mary Elizabeth Elizabeth Fishback.
This family is of interest to me in my attempt to identify my G3 grandmother, Mary Elizabeth Newland. Evidence through subsequent marriages indicates Mary Elizabeth Newland is related to the family of John Newland and Margaret Weer/Weir/Ware who were m. in Frederick Co. 20 Sep 1788. Margaret Newland (d/o of Joseph Weer who d. testate 1824) and her siblings Catherine, Isabella and James are named in his will.
Caterine Weir, m. Marcus Newland, considered a brother of John; Isabella Weir, m. Abner Clark and James Weir/Ware, m. Sarah Young. Joseph Weer also named his grand dau., Mary Ware in his will along with her children, Isabella Mason, James Mason and Joseph Mason.Mary Ware, m. Rezin Mason, 8 Apr 1808.
Mary Elizabeth Newland [1801-1844], m. John Davis[1800-1882]son of Abel & Mary Davis abt. 1817.No record of their m. is found in either WV of WV. Children of John & Mary Elizabeth were named Josiah, Maby, John & Philip probably probably given names in John Davis' family. The next group Joseph Ware Davis, Isaac Mason Davis and Margaret were probably named by Mary Elizabeth. Then Elijah, Peter, Cynthia, Abel K. & Timothy may be a combination. of both families.
If I find a m. record in Fayette Co. PA for John & Mary Elizabeth (Newland) Davis I can at least assume that Mary Elizabeth (Newland) Davis was d/o of Isaac & Mary Kairns who the 1800 census indicates had 1-M & 2-F in their family group.
A family headed by Isaac Newland & Mary also found in Ohio Co., WV includes:
1. Garrett Newland, b. 1817 West Liberty, Ohio Co., VA, m. Mary Ann Sargent, 23 Aug 1837, Morrow Co., OH.
2. Sarah Newland, b. 1819, possible wife of John Masteller.
3. Rebecca Newland, b. 1821
4. Isaac Newland, b./ 1823.
5. William F. Newland, b. 10 Jan 1825, m. Matilda Fielding.
6. Thomas Ingrham Newland, b. 1829, m. Mary Jane Higgins.
7. Martha Ellen Newland, b. 9 May 1831, m. John Monroe Higgins.
8. Marcus de Lafayette Newland, b. 12 Aug 1837, m. Isabelle Weamer/Wimmer.
Mary (Kairns) Newland is probably not the mother of Garrett and siblings since she would have been 70 years old at the time Marcus was born.Possbily Isaac Newland, Jr., s/o Isaac and Mary (Kairns) Newland was the father.
Data on Garrett and siblings is supplied through the efforts of Ricki Pitzner, Colin Davis, Lana Lundt & others.Further complementing work on these families is found in Gen Forum messages: by Wilmer L. Kerns (1) Kerns Family # 831 (2) Clark Family message # 16222 & Newland Family msg. #999 by Lana Lundt.
I hope to find proof of my assumptions. Obviously I can use a helping hand.
