I wonder if anyone has information about a branch of HOUDERSHELDT in Seward Co., Nebraska in the late 1800's.
I am looking for the parents of Sarah A. HOUDERSHELDT. She was the first wife of my great-grandfather. Sadly, she died in childbirth at the birth of their first child, a daughter.
Her husband, Simon Peter HAGEMAN, was born on 21 Sep 1858 in Illinois. He died on 19 Jan 1928. He immigrated in 1866 to Nebraska from Illinois with his parents in a covered wagon. He grew up on his father's farm on the Blue River about 5 mi. SE of Seward, and became a farmer.
In 1883 Simon Peter first married Sarah A. HOUDERSHELDT. She died in childbirth at the birth of their only child; family records state that "Lottie May died at the age of 3 months."
Here is an announcement in a newspaper [unidentified, unknown date] of this first marriage of Simon Peter Hageman:
"Married: At the residence of the bride's father on the 11th int. by Rev. E. Benson, Miss Sarah Houderscheldt, to Mr. [Simon Peter] Hageman."
[Note: "11th inst." is an abbrev. of "11th instant," meaning the 11th day of the same month as the publication.]
They had one child: i. Lottie May (Died as Infant)
On 27 May 1884 Simon Peter second married Martha Viola WALLICK. They are my great-grandparents.
I have always felt sorry about Sarah's and her baby's early deaths, and would like to know more about her family.
