Hi Teresa, I just put together some notes from Cousins and the LDS site.I show a J. Barnanbas Howell b abt 1792 in Wayne Co., NC who married Martha Best. They moved to Darlington SC. and my cousin's lines come through their son Benjamin Henry Howell 1823-1893 and his second wife. He married Martha Baker first in 1845 and she had 4 children:Barnabus A., Emily, C. E., and Benjamin Lemiel Howell. I do not know who they married. His second wife, married in 1856 was Francis Magdalene Parnell 1836-1897 who appears with him on the 1880 Darlington census in a community called Lydia. Several children and one grandchild appear, although none seem to be from the first marriage. They are:Mary G.1856,George C. HOWELL 1858, Elias L. HOWELL 1860 John E., 1862, Henry A. HOWELL1865, Suanna M. HOWELL 1866, Sintha L. HOWELL 1867, Wylie K. HOWELL 1869, Freston B. 1873, Idia V. Howell GDau1875
Elias married Pauline Windham. They had John Wesley Howell in 1883; He married an Eva Watford in 1902 they had Wooster, John Edgar, and Cerial Howell.
Another group of Howells from Wayne Co I have not been able to connect comes from another Benjamin Howell b 1752 and married to America Ballard or Howell. These are parenst of several children, including a Mary or Polly Howell b abt 1770 or 1780 who married Uriah Langston and may have come to Darlington. A Uriah Langston is on the 1800 census. Her sister Nancy Ann Howell is also one of this Benjamin's daughters. She married a Lewis Powell and moved to Twiggs Co., GA.
Another Howell that I can't connect anywhere is Ephraim Howell abt 1804 who married Mary Matilda Dubose. I do not know where this family moved, but ALabama is a good bet, although it might have been Darlington and the Dubose family moved there.
Hope some of these loose ends have filled in yours Mary Reynolds Woldering
