Descendants of Phillip? Waggoner
Generation No. 1
1.PHILLIP?2 WAGGONER(UNKNOWN1) was born Abt. 1770.He married CATHERINE FELLERS November 11, 1790 in Washington Co., TN, daughter of ADAM GEFELLER and MAGDALENE HUBER.She was born Abt. 1772.
Notes for PHILLIP? WAGGONER:
Researcher, Joyce Seat Todd, of Newtonville, MA., wrote in 1995 and speculated that Phillip Waggoner and his wife Catherine Fellers were probably Abraham's parents. The evidence points in that direction, but no solid connecting evidence has yet been found.Joyce also wrote that Jacob was probably a son to this same couple, as was Rachel Waggoner to whom Catherine Waggoner sold land. She thought this Rachel, either a daughter or daughter-in-law to Phillip and Catherine was the same person listed on the 1860 Federal Census, head of the household, living with Abraham Lincoln Waggoner, his wife Sallie (Huggins) and children Rhoda and Rosa.
Gerald Fisher Tankasila@aol.com has a WorldConnect tree which lists Samuel WAGGONER, who married Margaret HUGGINS, as the son of William Carroll Waggoner, source not given.
1790 - marriage data places Phillip in Washington Co., TN.From "TN Ancestors" published by East TN Historical Society Vol. 5 #1 Apr 1989: David Waggoner taxed in Washington Co., NC 1788 with 1 white poll, 2 black polls. Also in Capt. Cooper's Co. - Jacob Waggoner taxed with 150ac & 1 free white poll.
1820 Davidson Co., TN census p. 57: Philip Wagner (sic): 020201-12001 (over 45yrs), with possible son Abraham being about 23 years old in 1820, this census may place him in the correct time frame of 16 to 26 years of age category. Some neighbors, with surnames which interest us, listed on this census are: Josiah Seat 120101-00201; Neel(?) Wilson 30001-4011; Susan Castleman 30000-03000; John Castleman Jr. 120001-3111; John Castleman Sr. 000021-00001 (this man is ancestor to Thomas Jefferson Castleman who married Martha Elizabeth Waggoner, daughter of Abraham Waggoner).
Others on the 1820 Davidson Co., TN census: Cornelius Wagner p. 60.
Phillip Waggoner does not appear to be on the 1830 census, but there is a Catherine Waggoner (see her notes).Others on the 1830 Davidson Co., TN census are:
There is a Cornelius Waggoner on the 1850 Davidson Co., TN census p. D-190-712.He is 62 years of age, b. TN., wife Elizabeth 57, Henry 26, B. F. 22, Elizabeth 19, Tennessee 17, Amanda 15.His wife is probably Elizabeth HUFFMAN (Davidson Co., TN marriages: 04 Jan 1816).
Other early Davidson Co., TN marriages:
Catherine Waggoner to Jeremiah BAILEY 06 Dec 1820
Christopher Waggoner to Sarah PATRICK 10 Apr 1830

Notes for CATHERINE FELLERS:
Her surname was variously spelled: Follow, Fellers, etc.The following was sent by Joyce Seat Todd in 1995: "From Greene County TN Wills, 1783-1890, compiled by Goldene Fillers Burgner 1981, Southern Historical Press, Easley, SC 29640, page 34, there is an abstract of Adam G. Fellers' will, dated 27 Apr 1813: To daughter, Barbara Barnhart, 24 dollars. To daughter, Catherine Waggoner, 2 dollars and her children nine dollars. To daughter, Nancy Rimal, six cents. To son, John G. six cents above what he has received. To son, Abraham G., Six cents. To sons, Jacob G. and Henry G. six cents each.To daughter, Eve, five dollars.Executors - son Abraham G., son-in-law Conrad Barnhart.Written: 12 Dec 1812.Witnesses: Thomas Doan Sr., Wm. Lotspeich, Samuel X. Mauck. All other property to be sold and divided equally.Catherine's chidlren to get her part.Signed: Adam G. Fellers".
Joyce also wrote about her thoughts that Catherine Fellers (FOLLOW on the marriage record to Phillip Waggoner) could be the mother of Abraham and Samuel Waggoner, judging from property owned nearby, that Abraham Waggoner had a brother named Jacob and a sister or sister-in-law named Rachel to whom Catherine Waggoner sold some land.Abraham has a daughter named Rachel (maybe after his own sister?).According to Adam G. Feller's will, he has sons named Abraham and Jacob, and if Catherine is the mother of Abraham and Jacob Waggoner, then she must have named her sons after her brothers.Another argument for Catherine and Phillip Waggoner being Abraham's parents is that Samuel D. Waggoner is Abraham's brother, and Samuel has a son named Phillip (maybe after his father?).Yet another argument is that there is a Catherine Waggoner who married a Boyd and is a witness for a pension application by Samuel D. Waggoner's widow. This Catherine might very well be Abraham's sister who would have been named after her mother.
WFT Vol. 28 #1891 has one entry for Adam G. Fellers c1741-1813, wife Barbara Unknown, and follows the line of Catherine's brother Henry G. Fellers
There is one Catherine Waggoner on the 1830 Davidson Co., TN census, page 263, same page as Abraham and John Waggoner (this man possibly married Elizabeth Keagle 26 Feb 1804), but she is listed as being between 70-80 years of age (too old to be Catherine Fellers Waggoner who married in 1790?).The body count is: 2 males 20/30; 3 females 15/20 and 1 female 70/80.

Subject: [TNGREENE-L] Gefellers/G'Fellers/Fellers
Can anyone help me with information on Adam Gefellers (or G'Fellers)?
Adam supposedly had eight children:
Abraham Gefellers (who might have changed his name to Fellers) my gggg-grandfather.
Barbara (Barnhart), Catherine (Waggoner), John, Nancy (Rymel), Jacob, Eva, and Henry.
Abraham was born in 1781, probably in Virginia, and died in 1870 in Greene Co., TN.
He was a member of the Ebeneezer Church and appears in 1830 and 1850 Greene Co. census.
He had ten children by first wife Ann Mauris. After Ann's death, Abraham and second wife Barbara Glaze had three more sons, including my ggg-grandfather Jackson Fellers.
Donald A. Carpenter
Catherine's lineage: Johannes G'Feller, Adam G'Fellers, Abraham Gefellers website: http://carpenter-kring.freeservers.com/feller01.htmlhttp://carpenter-kring.freeservers.com/feller01.html gives Magdalene HUBER as wife to Adam G'Feller:
"Johannes G'Fellers immigrated from the Paletinate State of what is now western Germany, through the Netherlandsto Philadelphia on the ship "Bilender Townsen" on October 5, 1737.He settled in Lancaster County, PA, as did many Paletines who came to the colonies to avoid religious persecution and the Thirty Years War.His son, Adam might have made the trip with Johannes, but most likely was born later in Pennsylvania.Adam married and lived for a while in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia before settling in Greene County, TN.His son, Abraham was a judge in the Greene County Court for many years. The G'Feller name appears in records in a variety of spellings: G'Feller, G'Gellers, GeFellers, Gefellers, Fellars, Feller and Feller. Also, several through the years used G. as a middle initial with the last name Fellers. No doubt this reflected the record-keeping of the era as well as an attempt to Americanize the name."

Tennessee Cousins - THE OLDEST SETTLEMENT IN WHAT IS NOW THE STATE OF TENNESSEE p. 51 (FTM on-line library):
CARTER COUNTY was established by an Act of the Legislature of the new State of Tennessee, on April 9, 1796, just about thirty years after JULIUS DUGGER and ANDREW GREER came across the mountains and built their cabins in the wilderness of a new country, to be followed later by the "Fort" builders, who helped to develop the Northeastern part of what is now TENNESSEE.It is the scene of the oldest settlement in Tennessee, and had been part of the "Watauga Settlement", then of "Washington District" N. C., then 1777 "Washington County, N. C.", then part of the STATE OF FRANKLIN in 1785-7, & when Franklin "blew up" a part of N. C. again, them a part of the "Territory South of the Chio" until 1796, when, being a part of WASHINGTON COUNTY, TN., it finally assumed the title of Carter Co., TN., as it remains to this day. Nathaniel Taylor and Nathaniel Folsom were each paid $50 for laying off the town of ELIZABETHTON for the county seat of CARTER COUNTY, and the following persons were summoned to serve on the first grand jury c1797:
William Pugh (James' grandfather?)

Notes for ELLEN ELIZABETH WAGGONER:
Researcher Dawn Dyson john.dyson@MCI2000.com sent a list of the children (and dates/spouses/places) of Algernon and and Ellen Waggoner Seat. They were all born in Tennessee presumably at Pleasent Hill in Davidson County.Ellen Seat was her great grandmother. This information was from cousins of her grandmother who were rumored to have a family Bible although they were never willing to show it to her.But this corresponds with census records she claims.Algernon had two brothers John born 1844 and William born 1849.Algernon and Syndey both enlisted in the Confederate Army, 30 regiment Tennessee infantry on 22 Oct 1861.They were captured at Ft. Donelson 16 Feb 1862.The other brothers may have enlisted also.
WorldConnect has an entry on this line from Kenneth Lee Taylor firstname.lastname@example.org, along with Dawn Dyson's entry: http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=dyson&id=I151http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=dyson&id=I151.
Joyce Seat Todd wrote in 1995 that she had a death certificate #14026 (State of TN) which listed the birth date 27 Aug 1846, but the Ellen's Civil War Pension request (from her husband's service) showed a birth date of 08 Aug 1843.

Notes for JACOB WAGGONER:
JACOB WAGGONER - 2 REGIMENT, MOUNTED (HIGGINS'), TENNESSEE VOLUNTEERS.
In his wife, Esther's pension request application, she describes Jacob as 5'10", blue or grayish eyes, black hair, light complexion. An affidavit by E. G. Rowe states that Esther "is highly respected as was also her husband. They were plain people and of but little or no education, and I am satisfied that no family record has been kept".This was sent to me in 1995 by Joyce Seat Todd.
Family data is found on the 1850 TN census (D-655-435), and 1880 census according to Joyce Todd. There is a Jacob Waggoner on the 1840 Davidson Co., TN census also, p. 310 (1110001-111201).
Notes for ESTHER STEVANS:
Esther Waggoner is a witness for Arilla D. Spain Waggoner's application for a pension as a widow of Abraham Waggoner's service in the War of 1812.The date of the document is 16 Apr 1878, and Esther's age is given as 76, a resident of Rosedale, Davidson Co., TN.Esther does not sign her name, but makes her mark with an X.Possibly she is the sister-in-law of Abraham Waggoner. This information was sent to me by Joyce Seat Todd in 1995.She also wrote: in the 1870 and the 1880 Federal census, Esther's place of birth is listed as Virginia, not as Tennessee as in the 1850 census. In Esther's pension application as a widow of a veteran of the War of 1812, she states that there is no family record of her marriage to Jacob Waggoner but that she remembers well her husband going to Carthage, Smith Co., TN to apply for the marriage license. She further states that she and Jacob were married in 1821 by a Justice of the Peace near Carthage. On the pension application, her maiden name is given as "SLAVENS", but on an affidavit by the record keeper for Smith County, her maiden name is given as "STEVANS".The record keeper states that many of the records for Smith County had been burned during "the war".Esther's petition was granted, and she was awarded $8 per month.Arilla (Spain) Waggoner, the widow of Abraham Waggoner, is one of the witnesses for Esther's application (as was Esther for Arilla's application), offering further evidence that Jacob and Abraham were probably brothers.

Notes for SAMUEL D. WAGGONER:
In Arilla (Spain) Waggoner's application for a pension as a widow of a veteran of the War of 1812 (file # WO-17040), there is an affidavit by Samuel D. and "Peggy" Margaret Waggoner which states "..We knew Abraham Waggoner (who was a soldier in the War of 1812 and was the brother of affiant Samuel Waggoner)...".This data from Joyce Seat Todd 1994.

(Huggins) Waggoner, who applied as a widow of veteran Samuel D. Waggoner.Joyce wrote that at the end of this document there was a statement saying she had been dropped "because of death", dated 29 Mar 1898.

Notes for SARAH FRANCES WAGGONER:
Connie Buchanan email@example.com posted the following to GenForum: "Del, thanks so much for answering my post. Sarah Frances Waggoner-Buchanan is one of my brick walls. She was born 1839 in Donelson, Davidson County, TN. She married William Clinton Buchanan 1859, Donelson, TN. They had 12 children, born in Tn. They were in Custer Co., OK. in 1893, as we have a letter she wrote from there that year. She died in Thurston Co. WA. in 1917, after living there with a son. I got her death certificate, which listed her mother's maiden name as Huggins, and father's name as Wagner, although, Buchanan genealogies spell it Waggoner. She was buried in Thomas, OK. The 1900 Census for OK. says her parents were born in TN. I have a lot of info on the Buchanan side, but that's all on the Waggoner-Wagner side. If anything at all you have on a Waggoner-Huggins marriage and families could be a lead to Sarah's family, could you please share it with me? I would be so grateful. What are the Huggins/Waggoner marriages you have? I guess the date could be anywhere from 1800-1839."
Connie also sent me E-mail in Oct. 2000 which included some of the data posted for this line (her husband's family). She wrote: "A family bible, in possession of my husband's sister, has Sarah's birth-date as April 8, 1839, although her death certificate says April 28, 1839.William Clinton and Sarah Frances had children with the names of Margaret, Phillip, Robert, Mary, and William, all names you have for Samuel and Margaret Waggoner.Samuel Douthit Buchanan came to Texas in 1880, and ended up in Howard Co., TX."
