Hi Shauna...I've done some extensive research since I was last in contact with you...We are not talking about the same John Hughes.I have copies of legal documents and several books that state that John Hughes whose parents were Martha Swan and William Hughes died in 1817.In part of William's will it leaves a part of his assets to Sarah "Sallie" Hughes & the children of John, who is deceased at that time.John and Sarah "Sallie" Williams were married in 1809.I have numerous census records that place Sarah and children in Howard County, MO in 1830, as she followed John's family to MO and then in Platte, Clay & Clinton Counties till their deaths. One of Sallie and John's sons, was my great great grandfather, William Swan Hughes.William Swan Hughes and his sister Mary Elizabeth Hughes married Matilda Oldham and Leonidas Oldham, who were also brother and sister.Matilda is buried in Barry Cemetery in Clay County MO with 2 of their 3 sons & their wives and families. One son is buried in Platte County, MO in the Green Cemetery.I can trace death cerificates to them.William Swan and Matilda Hughes lived close to Leonidas & Mary Elizabeth Hughes most of their lives.Matilda died in 1899...Leonidas died in Port Gibson, Miss from injuries of the Civil War, one of their sons is buried at the Confederate Memorial Cemetery here in Higginsville, MO where I live about a mile from it.Mary Elizabeth is buried in Bent County, Colorado, where she moved with one of her some of her children and their families a year or so before she passed away...on the census I have Sarah "Sallie" Williams Hughes was 1st living with her children in Howard County, MO then with them in Platte County, MO, then living with Mary Elizabeth and Leonidas Oldham in her last years. If you are interested in any of this information, please let me know and I will be glad to share it.

Two books I got information out of without digging too much are:Genealogical Gems from Early MO Deed 1815-1850 Family & Locality Information from MO County Land records by Marsha Hoffman Rising, CG. FASG; another one is the Anuals of Platte County, MO
They have built a huge new genealogy libray in Independence, MO which is 35-40 minutes from my house...I believe I will be able to find more information there....
I will list my ancestors that I have for the Hughes's so far...I have many of their brother's and sister's and wives and children, but will only list my direct line...
