Ironically, at the time of my post in March 2002, I knew more about the Scaifes than anyone else in my family. Now, it's kind of turned around...I know quite a bit about the Hancocks and the Huies and others who married the Scaifes, but relatively little about Sarah... the family is very prominent and very well documented going way back, but Sarah (b. ~1800) seems to have run off with my ggggg gf James Hancock at avery early age, perhaps 14, and she died in an unknown place in Alabama at about age 26... it seems to me that she lost favor with her family by running off into what was relative obscurity... Although her father was very wealthy, he only left $100 to Sarah's children (6 of them).
Sarah is the fourth? child of of William Scaife (1773-1841) and Margaret Terry of Chester, SC and the grand-daughter of William Scaife of VA (1751-1805). She had 14 siblings of whom 7 survived to adulthood.. she also had a step brother by William's second marriage.
