I'm also researching the Huie Family from Rapides, LA.So far I have found three brothers - Josiah (b.1800, d. 1860), Robert (b.1808) and Green (b.1810 d. 1865).They were all born in NC, but I don't have their parents; however, their father was born in NC and mother in SC.They may have had Irish roots, or perhaps Scot roots, or perhaps both. Interesting about the Hugenots. Josiah lived for a few years in Alabama as two of his children were born there.
They were rich in 1860 as Josiah's plantation in the Alexandria area was worth $208,000 and he had 161 slaves. (He died a month before the census, so it is his wife Eliza's name.) I'm guessing that the three of them ran the plantation together.Everything changed after the war.Their descendent, my friend Carol, was told that the plantation burned and I've read that the Union soldiers burned many plantations in the area.
I have gathered quite a bit of information about their descendents which I'd be happy to share.I'm not sure if there is a connection.I don't know anything about Florida, but the Rapides Parish sounds like a connection.
