Hello Bob,Long Time Huh! I am looking for father for James.Recent research indicates he may have a brother named JOHN HEWLETT in Prince William County listed as apprentice to THOMAS STONE in 1772/73 6 months or so after James is listed as apprentice with JOHN COTTON.
Information also indicating that JOHN married Druscilla in Maryland.Across from Prince William County in Virginia, there is a historical place having to do with THOMAS STONE in Maryland.Awfully close proximity!!
Druscilla is said to be born in Maryland.
Next subject:) I still have marriage cert. stating that James married Elizabeth McCorkle in Augusta County 1787?(I don't have my notes in front of me). Also land grant in that area.
Next:) I am looking in British soldiers of the Colonial/French & Indian War for a father for James. The librarian at Alexandria says that the best reason for an 8 year old child to be apprenticed is if father is dead and mother can't take care of children. She said that there must not be an estate to take care of them.Due to the 6 month seperation in apprenticships of the brothers(I Hope) it looks like the older brother (John) was trying to take care of someone or just working at another job and it ended or didn't pan out. She also said that 99% of widows were remarried VERY QUICKLY. Only problem with this line of thinking is: If father of James Hulet was a soldier and died, wouldn't he or his family get some kind of compensation?
Bob,I am also checking the first wave of French settlers to Marietta, Braddocks soldiers, Lord Dunnmore, Rogers Rangers, Washingtons troops.
This City of Alexandria is and was an "Independant City". They have their own records. Wish I could get there.
Also, Bob, wouldn't this JOHN Hewlett help fix the problems that everyone is having trying to fit 2 JOHN's into the line. This John was also a Rev War Soldier. I am looking for his papers. The other bad part about having JOHN as a brother for James is that maybe there ARE 2 Johns and I am desc. of John brother of James. It could go: JOHN/JOHN/ Jasper / Milton without James at all. However, my John Milton had a brother that lived with him that was named JAMES ALLEN Eulett.
One more note of interest.I know that JOHN/JACK are nicknames.John Milton Eulett said on his father Henry Jasper death cert. that Jaspers father's name was JACK/mother Susannah Lee.Have you ever heard JACK for our Hulet's.
