I have received from state archives William Hurdle's1807 estate records which are composed of about 75 pages. William was the son of Joseph Hurdle, Sr. and Elizabeth Hurdle of Gates County, NC. This William died on or about 10 Feb 1806. According to his estate records he had a total of nine children. Two of these, Kadah and Henry, were at least 21 at the time of William's death. Of these two, Henry apparently had died before 1808 as he is not listed in any of the esttate settlements. Two, Rachel (deceased by the time William's estate was settled) and Hannah, had been married. Both of these daughters married Thomas Freeman, first Rachel in 1806. Rachel having died that same year, Thomas married her sister Hannah in 1807.The remaining 5, Penelope, Odediah, John, Joel, and Abel were minors. Records show that William Hurdle married Rachel Perry 5 April 1781 in Gates County. I have found an entry on ancestry.com that says a Rachel Hurdle died 1786 but am not sure if this is the same Rachel. William's wife at the time of his death in 1806 was named Elizabeth. Estimating birth years based on dates from orphan account audits and other information in William's estate records, I would conclude that Kadah and Henry were of the first marriage to Rachel Perry( if she died in 1786) and that the remaining children were of William's marriage to Elizabeth. I can find no record of William's marriage to Elizabeth. Does anyone have this marriage date or any other information about the exact ages of any of William's children and who their mothers might be. Thanks!
