The marriage index as well as the license showed T.J. Hutchens as the groom's name who married Talitha Jane Guest (Gist), however, upon close examination of the actual marriage bond, it clearly showed that the grooms name was T.J. Thompson, not Hutchens.
What happened is that the bondman's name was shown as Real (Rheal-?) Hutchens, and the grooms name was T.J. Thompson, but when the clerk wrote the grooms name in the bottom section of the bond, where the marriage was recorded, he erroneously wrote T.J. Hutchens on the line for the grooms name, when he should have written in "T.J. Thompson".
I verified this by finding Thomas J. Thompson with wife Talitha, on the 1880 census, having moved to Hardin Co., TN., shortly after their marriage. Also found Talitha's mother, and step-father living in Hardin Co., TN., at this time as well, and they all likely made the move together.
Always pays to view the actual and full record and not depend on the index, nor just the record. Look at the bond as well!
Anyone know who Real (Rheal) Hutchens was? Thanks, Christi
