colonial Ca 1620's. He is not the first to be recorded. The Hutchings owned ships and one was called the Three brothers. This may be the reason so many stories report the origns of this family as three brothers coming to America. According to Virginia Archives, a Robert Hutchin/ings/en and his wife lived on the Bermuda Hundred in VA and were killed in the 1622, VA Colonial records also for that period contain the names, Arthur,
Henry, Robert, William, John and so forth. They were all connected with shipping, trade and commerce. They were Masters of ships, mariners and early land owners. The name in colonial records is spelled so many ways, often depending on the clerk of the court of each county might spell the name consistly, but different for the same family and the next clerk spell it otherwise. There are records of a Hutchings being one of the masters of the ship Mayflower. For people researching early Hutchens/ings/en of colonial America check the Virginia State Library online.
