Hello Robert! Seems to me that we have discussed my Hutchings-in-question before, and I recall you telling me that there is no record of Esrom Hutchings having a son named Andrew, but after reading your post from last February, I'd like to review some things about Andrew Jackson Hutchings/Hutchins. He was born 1/26/1818 in Clark IN. Andrew (also known as A. J. and Jackson) got a land patent near Marshall IN (under the name Jackson Hutchings) in 1849. But, in 1850, Andrew is found living in Millcreek, Clark, Illinois, renting a farm. This seems to be quite a coincidence, coinciding with Esrom and his family moving to Clark IL, also. Later Andrew moved to Dolson Twp, Clark IL. (A. J. Hutchens was listed in the Clark County IL Platbook: Retired farmer, Dolson Twp, Section 2, Dolson PO. born 1818 in IN, arrived in Clark IL in 1849.)
So, in view of all this, I've been wondering what the source for the list of Esrom's children is? If it is from Esrom's will, is it possible that he didn't mention all of his children in his will? I notice that the first child of Esrom was born in 1819. But, it would be chronologically possible for Andrew to be a previous child.
So, as you can tell, I'm leaning heavily on circumstantial evidence to prove that Andrew might be Esrom's son. I haven't found any other Hutchings/Hutchens/Hutchins in IN that fit the dates and locations for Andrew as well as Esrom. Also, I do understand that short of a DNA study, it may not be possible to prove this relationship. But, I would like know what you (and other researchers) think of all this. Thanks!
