Mary Raines was born in South Carolina on October 17, 1826. On April 21, 1857 she married John Hutchinson [also born in S.C., around 1802) in Polk County, N.C. The fact that she was 24 years younger makes me think that maybe this is a second marriage for him.
Mary was the mother of four children; James (b. 1858), John (b. 1860), Joseph (b. 1861) and Nathaniel (b. 1866) all born in Polk Co NC. She was grandmother to many and in her later years was affectionately known as "Granny."

"Mrs. Hutcherson had reached the ripe old age of 82 and was known through out (sic) her long and useful life as an earnets Christian. In her daily walk of life her life was exemplary, always showing the bright and cheerful spirit of her pure and sweet Christian character in such a manner that to know her was to love her.
