Thomas Hutson and Noah Cainer/Canner/Kenner Hutson of Clarke Co, GA
I am not a relative, but an archeologist and historian researching along the Oconee River near Watkinsville, GA.There was a Thomas Hutson that died in 1811 (I have his will), some relation to a Noah variously spelled Cainer/Kenner/etc.I am not sure of their relation but they are likely related. There is a Hutson's Ford and a Hutson's Ferry at Barnett Shoals, a large rocky shoals (called the Bigg Shoals of the Oconee historically) in the Oconee River, now in Oconee Co, GA.It was the SW border of the United States during the 1780s to about 1802, and there were several Federal Forts along the river at that time, as the other side of the river still belonged to the Creek Indians.I am trying to find Fort Mathews, which was probably built in 1792 to guard the place later called Hutson's Ford.I would appreciate any info on these Hutsons.Aside from the will, I have had little luck tracking down their deeds and the actual location of the ford and ferry sites. This area was originally part of Franklin County, then Clarke, and became Oconee County in 1875.
Thanks,
Lisa O'Steen, RPA
