Hi Sherri, Wow I had no clue that Homer Hutto was the one who was shot.I hope that what I was toldvery little of growing up did not upset you , you have heard a different story all together than what I was told. I called my mother yesterday for her to refresh our memories a little. About 15 years ago a good friend of hers was on a trip to visit family in the panhandle somewhere. She stopped in the town of Vernon at an antique shop. There was a news article from the local paper from 1932 on the wall describing a gunfight that occured at the same spot. All my moms friend was allowed to do was a photo shot. The article said at that time the antique store was an Elks lodge, it went on to say This is where Homer Hutto and a man named David Farrar age 37, got into a argument over a gambling dispute. David Farrar left the lodge, as Homer was just walking down the stairs at the Elks lodge Farrar wasjust at the bottom of the stairs with a gun and shot Homer 3 times then Homer shot Farrar in the chest killing him instantly,Homer survived but died a day later. It said he was a machine shop operater by trade. This article was on the wall of an antique atore in Vernon. My mother has a photp copy of this news story, I can make a copy of it for you. As time passes storys can get distorted even if it was a news paper story but I think you need a copy of this. My grandfather Elbert was 11 years younger than Homer, so what he was told or not told about things that happened can get a little distorted. Talk to you later Patricia.
