Hello S. Jenkins:
Here are the families of John Goff’s parents, and of John and Christiana Goff.As noted in the preceding post, there is no documentation for Christiana, or of this marriage. But deeds show Christiana as John’s wife at this time.
John Goff, son of Salathiel of Randolph Co VA, had brothers and sisters:
Hiram b. 1780,m. Margaret Rush
(John) b. 1781,m.1st Christiana …….
George Gray b. 1782,m. his cousin Joanna Goff
Ann (Nancy) b. 1785,m. Benjamin Riddle
Elizabeth b. 1787,m. William Stalnaker
Maryann b. 1791,m 1st John Mongold
John Goff’s wife, Christiana, must have become sick or frail at this point and died later, since John remarried (Suzannah Parsons) in 1815.John joined his brothers near Glenville WV about 1814.He later married Mary Richardson and moved in direction of Charleston WV.These data are from “The Four Goff Bros of Western Virginia”, Roy Lockhart and Phillip Goff.
John Goff’s issue with Christiana are as follows; these data are from more extensive notes prepared by Roy Lockhart:
A. Rebecca, b. 1798, m. Thomas Hardman, lived in Jackson, Wirt and Roane Cos. WV, then Kansas
B. Salathiel, b. 1802, m. Margaret Flesher, lived Lewis, Gilmer, Jackson, Wirt and Roane Cos., then to Texas.I am derived from this Salathiel
C. Drusilla, born 1800 – 1810 m. William M. Parsons 1824, whose nickname was Billy, or Harelipped Bill. They spent most of their lives in Jackson or Roane Co.Issue:
1) Interestingly one of their sons was named Adam Hyder Parsons, b. 1826-1828.
2) Isaac R. Parsons, b. about 1827, lived in Ritchie Co. WV and in Kansas
3) Rebecca Parsons, b. 1831, lived in Jackson and Roane Cos.
4) John Parsons, b. 1830, lived in Jackson and Roane Cos.
5) Mary C. Parsons, b. 1837, Jackson and Roane
6) Nancy Artemisia Parsons, b. 1841, lived in Roane Co.
7) Thomas B. Parsons, b. 1843, Jackson and Roane
If you wantme to go further you should e-mail me at [email protected], since I don’t want to clutter this posting any further.I have a question for you.You said that your family told you that John Goff’s wife was Christina Hyder.Would you say this was a family tradition uninfluenced by research in the last 15 years, or do you think it was based on research byR. Lockhart or others? This is important, because if Goff/Hyder comes from a story passed down, then it strengthens the conjecture that John Goff married Christina HYDER.
John Goff
